Which Laminate Flooring Should You Choose?

Choosing the right laminate floor depends on various factors such as your budget, lifestyle, and personal preferences. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a laminate floor:

  1. Durability: Look for laminate flooring with a high Abrasion Class (AC) rating. The AC rating ranges from AC1 to AC5, with AC5 being the most durable and suitable for high-traffic areas.
  2. Thickness: The thickness of laminate flooring typically ranges from 8mm to 14mm. Thicker options tend to be more durable and offer better sound insulation.
  3. Design and Appearance: Consider the style and design that complements your home’s aesthetic. Laminate flooring comes in a wide range of colors, patterns, and finishes to match various décor themes.
  4. Water Resistance: If you plan to install laminate flooring in moisture-prone areas like bathrooms or kitchens, opt for a water-resistant or waterproof laminate that can withstand spills and moisture.
  5. Installation: Laminate floors come with click-lock installation systems, making them easier to install as a DIY project. If you’re not confident in your DIY skills, you may want to choose a laminate floor that can be installed by us.

What is Laminate Flooring Made Of?

Laminate flooring is made of of 4 layers:

  1. Wear Layer: Wear layer is a thin film of material that forms on the top surface of a laminate floor when it is exposed to everyday wear and tear.
  2. Decorative Layer: Decorative layer is a sublayer of laminate flooring made up of small, rectangular pieces that are glued together to create a design or image.
  3. Substrate Layer: The substrate layer is typically made up of a composite material, such as wood fiber.
  4. Backing Layer: Backing layer is the underlayment used in laminate flooring. It’s a thin sheet of wood, plastic, or other material that lies below the finished flooring and provides support and protection.

Where Can You Install Laminate Flooring

Typically you can install laminate flooring in every room of your home, with some exceptions. Some laminates are considered water resistant and can be installed in bathrooms with caution given to the amount of moisture there may be.

But you can install laminate flooring in your basement, kitchen or bedrooms with no issues. Just be sure to follow to recommended installation guidelines from the manufacture.

It is recommended that you use an under pad for better sound efficiency as well as a softer feel on your feet.
